There were a few word processors <a href=\"#footnote-2-932\" id=\"note-2-932\" rel=\"footnote\">2<\/a> and perhaps a spreadsheet or two but little else. Handcrafted programs in BBC BASIC were the way to fill in the gaps.<\/p>\n<p>In the intervening years <a href=\"#footnote-3-932\" id=\"note-3-932\" rel=\"footnote\">3<\/a> precooked \u2018ready meals\u2019 of apps have sufficed to fulfil most of my needs and wants.<\/p>\n<p>However, software engineers and indie programmers do not always anticipate or indeed are able to get right down into the weeds of my automation needs.<\/p>\n<p>Here, the ability to \u2018write\u2019 \u2018programs\u2019 or workflows or shortcuts is increasingly valuable <a href=\"#footnote-4-932\" id=\"note-4-932\" rel=\"footnote\">4<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I can now automate mailshots, expenses returns and indeed, this blog<\/p>\n<p>As you can see, it really is a return to Basics<\/p>\n<div class=\"footnotes\"><hr \/><ol><li id=\"footnote-1-932\" class=\"footnote\"><p>This is certainly true within the NHS<a href=\"#note-1-932\" class=\"footnote-return\">&#8617;<\/a><\/p><\/li><!--\/#footnote-1.footnote--><li id=\"footnote-2-932\" class=\"footnote\"><p>WordStar anyone?<a href=\"#note-2-932\" class=\"footnote-return\">&#8617;<\/a><\/p><\/li><!--\/#footnote-2.footnote--><li id=\"footnote-3-932\" class=\"footnote\"><p>1991-2018<a href=\"#note-3-932\" class=\"footnote-return\">&#8617;<\/a><\/p><\/li><!--\/#footnote-3.footnote--><li id=\"footnote-4-932\" class=\"footnote\"><p>Really is that what programmers do when then use APIs?<a href=\"#note-4-932\" class=\"footnote-return\">&#8617;<\/a><\/p><\/li><!--\/#footnote-4.footnote--><\/ol><\/div><!--\/#footnotes-->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It is said that if you wait long enough, then you will find yourself back where you started The return to basics I mean, relates to computer programming.
